Drug Awareness

Which is killing more people in Lexington County?

 Home fires or overdoses?

In 2022 Lexington County had 4 fire deaths and 126 fatal overdoes. From a risk reduction standpoint you are more likely to encounter substance misuse in your community verse failing to escape a fire.

How you can help.

Get rid of expired and unwanted prescription medication in your medicine cabinet.

City of Cayce Fire Department has a drug disposal bin in the court house lobby (2 Lavern Jumper Rd), or click here to look for disposal sites near you.

If prescribed an opioid pain killer, know the risks.

You can become addicted in 3 days taking your medication as prescribed. Know the risks. Talk to your doctor.

Know the dangers of fake pills and taking medication not prescribed to you.

Remember one pill can kill. Can you tell the difference?

Fake pills are often laced with lethal fentanyl. 2mg of fentanyl is all it takes to kill the average American. “Lets learn from our mistakes and not die from them.”

Know the importance of talking to your children or grandchildren about drugs and alcohol.

Also share a code word with your child if they text or call that you will pick them up with no questions asked.

Carry naloxone (Narcan) to respond to an opioid overdose. You could save a life!

Cayce Fire Department is a community distributor of Naloxone. Please reach out to use if you need Naloxone.
